PMD Issues Weather Alerts for Rain, Wind, and Thunderstorms
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a press release projecting rainfall, winds, and thunderstorms between September 15 and 20. These meteorological events are attributed to moderate monsoon currents originating from the Bay of Bengal, poised to infiltrate the northern regions of the country during this timeframe.
Furthermore, on September 16th, a westerly wave is expected to sweep through these areas, heightening the meteorological conditions. The impact of these weather phenomena spans a wide geographical expanse, encompassing regions such as Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, and numerous other cities and districts.
The Met Office cautions that this weather pattern could result in moderate to heavy rainfall, potentially leading to an increase in water levels in local nullahs and streams. In addition, there is a concern for landslides in susceptible areas of Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, GB, and several others.
Farmers are strongly advised to adapt their agricultural activities accordingly, while tourists and travelers are urged to exercise prudence during this period. Moreover, the public is encouraged to remain indoors when windstorms, lightning, and heavy rains occur, as these meteorological events may cause structural damage to items like electric poles and solar panels.
All pertinent authorities have been placed on high alert, and citizens are advised to stay abreast of the latest developments through the official website of the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
