Hiran Minar: A Monument of Love for Animals
Hiran Minar is a historical site located in Sheikhupura, Pakistan. It was built in the early 17th century by Mughal Emperor Jahangir as a monument of love to his pet deer, Mansraj.
History:
According to historical accounts, Jahangir was very fond of hunting and had a particular attachment to one of his pet deer named Mansraj. When the deer died in 1606, Jahangir was deeply saddened and decided to build a monument in his memory.
Architecture:
The construction of Hiran Minar started in 1607 and was completed in 1620. The main building of Hiran Minar is a square-shaped tower, which rises to a height of 100 feet. The tower was built using red bricks and is decorated with intricate geometric patterns and Arabic calligraphy. There is a spiral staircase having 108 steps inside the tower that leads to the top of the tower.
It also includes a mosque, which is located to the west of the main building. The mosque is a rectangular structure, which is built on a raised platform. The mosque has three domes, which are supported by arches. The interior of the mosque is decorated with intricate plasterwork and calligraphy.
Hiran Minar is surrounded by a large artificial lake, which was created by damming a nearby stream. The lake provides a scenic backdrop to the complex and enhances its aesthetic appeal.
After the decline of the Mughal Empire, Hiran Minar fell into disrepair and was partially destroyed by earthquakes. In the 20th century, the site was restored and is now a popular tourist attraction and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

There is a minimal entrance fee of PKR 20 per person and PKR 500 for foreigners.
