ChapShuro: A Traditional Dish of Hunza Valley
ChapShuro, also known as Hunza Meat Pies, is one of the yummiest and most widely available dishes in Hunza valley. You cannot complete your trip to Hunza without trying this dish.
ChapShuros are half-circle shaped pies that are filled with minced beef, mutton, or yak meat. The traditional chapshuro is made up of spiced yak meat. "Chap" refers to "meat", so the meat can be of your choice.
This meat is paired with chopped onions, red chilies, coriander leaves, and small local tomatoes. This meat mixture is then folded into dough and baked in the local oven and firewood. The dough is usually a mix of cornmeal and whole wheat flour. After baking, the pie is then brushed with apricot oil or served with apricot oil as a dip.
This dish is a pure blend of local ingredients and the elegant cooking style of Central Pakistan.
